In the Leadership Development, the general observations says that most leaders while practicing leadership Skills, give up on fundamental values, during the moment of crisis. For example, while choosing sales over long term service, some leaders end up asking their managers to overlook service part, as it is not immediate responsibility and can be easily compromised. Values are long remember by people than the short term performance jump. Never bargain with values, remember you are being watched every moment by your people.

“Be with them in their bad time, and they will be with you in you in your bad time” this is a simple proverbial explanation of how important it is for you to be people’s person. Never treat your people as just employees, they are your warriors. Continue to respect them and understand their needs. Sole their issues and assist them in difficult time. Coach and mentor people daily, by this way you will be able to transform them.

  • Being people’s person does not mean allowing lethargy or casualness in work.
  • People’s person always first talk about “WE”, and they drop “I”. Even at times they only say “You” and minus his own self when it comes to give credit.
  • Gel well with different cultures, do not bring your personal biases in between.

Leaders often get into daily business and give less priority to self-development. Once a position is achieved, the learning takes back seat. This is actually a slow suicide. Learning should be increased as the position is achieved. we are responsible for people development and coaching, staying updated with market knowledge will only add edge in your leadership style.

  • Knowledge upgrade is essential and important to stay ahead of the competition. Reading is best tool yet, and you can chose the option between digital reading or paper back versions.
  • Be a part of knowledge group or a forum, and keep exchanging ideas and views. This also helps in building network along with increasing knowledge.
  • In the world of Internet, staying updated with most recent happening in the industry is desirable and considered as the prerequisite for being a leader.
  • Never feel below level, even if you have to learn from your juniors, do it with spirit.

5. Highest level of Discipline: 

This is one such trait where most leaders try hard to fall in line, but they fail. Discipline is a virtue and if you are not fortunate enough to get it by birth, than you need to practice it for long. There is no rocket science but to be  hard task master for self. Discipline not only in time management, but discipline includes executional discipline, review discipline, cultural discipline etc.

  • Discipline is not taught it is imbibed.
  • You need to follow what you expect people to follow
  • Transparency in every conduct will make your job easier and you can learn discipline faster
  • No single person is complete, find out the smaller concern area of indiscipline and improve it, gradually move onto other complex habits.
